Maria’s talk

An exclusive introduction to our iconic collections.

In an intimate meeting with friends of the brand and the top fashion editors of the leading magazines of Guatemala, the first edition of MARIA’S Talk was held. This small gathering was held to exalt and celebrate the beauty of the Guatemalan textiles and the artists behind these works of art.

Our founder Alida Boer welcomed the audience, shared the history of the brand and introduce our new Creative Director, Edgar Navarro who deepen into the inspiration behind our most iconic collections: Birds of Paradise Flower Blossom and Mulata de Tal.

Birds of Paradise:

MARIA’S decided to launch its first limited edition collection inspired by the delicate and fine work from the region of Santiago Atitlan.

For this collection, the creative team worked closely with a select group of weavers led by Indri Paola Vasquez, who in this occasion shared with us the story behind their magnificent work.

Vasquez explains that the huipils of the region are inspired by the natural diversity of Lake Atitlan and its surroundings. She also mentions that “each huipil is embroidered with the history, feelings, emotions and passions of the atitlaneca woman,” so each huipil can take up to 6 months because every detail is taken care with great devotion.

To display all the splendor of the huipils made by Indri Paola and her team, the style Tote was chosen to work for its ample size and versatile form. Each bag was developed by our small group of master craftsmen preserving the traditional craft techniques to create extraordinary works of art.

The aim of this collection was to exalt the splendor of our culture that is reflected in the exquisite embroideries of each huipil and the incredible quality of our leathers and elegant finishes.

Mulata de Tal

A collection of our most iconic styles is the welcome letter from our new Creative Director, Edgar Navarro.

Edgar with our founder Alida Boer, personally chose the most representative bags from MARIA’S trayectory to design a wide repertoire that celebrates our brand and the essence of the culture of Guatemala.

In this opportunity we also launched two new styles that follows the latest trends: the Micro Kitty and Micro Unique; as well as our new line of accessories.

Inspired by the wonderful book “Mulata de Tal” from the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature Miguel Angel Asturias, our creative team searched for the most beautiful huipils in the country that through its forms, colors and materials personify the most magical realism that characterizes Asturias.

Flower Blossom

A legend of an impossible love was the inspiration behind this romantic collection launched especially for Valentine’s Day.

“In the legendary sunsets of Guatemala, among a landscape of hills and volcanoes that guard the blue lakes of the region a tale of an impossible love is born.“

This time our creative team traveled to the region of Patzún, Chimaltenango to select only the most stunning huipils that represent the most this beautiful highland region of the country.

Our master craftsmen selected the best leathers and imported accessories to highlight each of these beautiful embroidered huipil. Also, a commemorative plaque celebrating the extraordinary craftsmanship of each bag was designed to identify the select group of less than 50 bags of the collection.
